Personal Religion or Lack Thereof?

  • I've been looking for some type of spirituality in organized religion for a while, but I've found that each religion has core aspects that I disagree with. I'm considering forming a "personal religion" that I feel is right ('personal' meaning not pushing it on others). So my question to you is:

Do you believe that it is best to form your own relationship with God(s) or rely on organized religion to guide your path? Or, in the case of atheists, do you find it more comforting/productive to make your own deductions or do you enjoy discussion as a community? Feel free to post your personal experiences or stories.

  • What's the need for god? We know there were other gods and all of those just like this one ended up on the god junk pile.

  • Just be honest with yourself. Did you really hear God speaking to you, or did you just wish that he had? Answer questions like that truthfully and you'll get an idea of what is going on.

  • I have found that the best way to go is God's way. To tell you the truth I have been a Christian for a very long time and we all have our struggles and our doubts. Though, always ask God for help and read your Bible.

  • In terms of your basic question, if you are looking for spirituality, part of it is based on your relationship with Deity, however you define it. On the other hand, it helps immensely to have others who believe in or are interested in the same aspects of Deity as yourself to discuss and worship with.

In the case of Atheists, it's good to have friends.

  • I am a scientist by training and inclination, and the essence of science is to make judgments based on evidence. Since there is not a shred of credible evidence of the existence of any sort of god, I don't believe in one.

  • Form your own relationship with God first. This builds the spirit inside of you, which then helps you feel stronger one way or another about the 'organized religion'.

Get ready for a rollercoaster ride, I've attended Baptist churches, Lutheran churches, Catholic churches, and for me the one that worked was 'non-denominational'.....

  • Most definitely!! you have to form a personal relationship with God...After all you do have free will you are never forced just informed..

  • I believe religious and spiritual discussions are helpful in determining agreeable solutions from all our overall differences. I'm an atheist, but I don't parade it.
